This year the IIS Cesaris school in Casalpusterlengo joins the Erasmus+ “Friendly maths” project. It is going to last 2 school years and 39 students from our school have joined the project so far.

The project is coordinated by 4 teachers: Alberto Bonfitto, Gaetano Petronzio, Leandro Crivella and Maddalena Lusenti.

This project also involves 4 other European countries: Spain, Portugal, France (represented by La Réunion Island) and Romania.

Students who joined the project are going to meet to organize the first mobility in the following days: 8th and 22nd Nov, 6th Dec 2019; 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st Jan and 7th Feb 2020. Two organizational meetings have already taken place in October.

The main purpose of the project is to draw the attention of young people to the importance of Maths. Nowadays, the knowledge of basic Maths skills is essential and it’s surely going to affect   possibilities of us students after finishing school. Mathematical abilities are important in the daily routine as well, as they open up to more possibilities on the workplace and develop personal autonomy and critical thinking. Most of us students think that Maths doesn’t affect our daily life. This project wants to bust this myth and demonstrate how fun Maths can be.

During these two years students are going to cooperate in order to show how popular Maths is in the daily routine and professional work.

Some of these activities will be focused on:

  1. Import-export companies: dealing with budget, discounts percentage and multi-currency price lists;
  2. Avoid a scam: comparing mobile SIM-deal best offers, power supply and/or gas companies’ prices;
  3. Measures: size of garments and shoes in European countries and around the world, wind, earthquakes, TV/PC monitor sizes.
  4. How long does it take to fill a bathtub or a swimming pool?
  5. Create a poster that depicts many professionals using maths in their job;
  6. Designing a simple local area network for a school: students will deal with the plan of the school, geometry and percentage, budgets and costs evaluation. This activity will consider the use of a spreadsheet.

All in all, we can only wish…

GOOD ERASMUS TO EVERYONE!
